Accessible Datavis Explorations
About Moz
Moz was founded by Rand Fishkin and Gillian Muessig in 2004, believing there was a better way to do marketing. Focusing on search engine optimization (SEO), they eventually developed a marketing toolset aimed at providing search data and analytics to digital marketers. Because Moz was founded as this area of specialty was being created, Moz has stayed true to its roots as a place that people new to the field can develop their skills.
Project Overview
Among the many projects I undertook at Moz was one where we reinvisioned several aspects of the product. As a product that displayed visualizations of search performance, it was a priority for us to make the data visualizations as accessible as possible, while also providing multiple ways that our customers could view and utilize the information we provided. These screens are a few of the examples of our initiative to improve our site's readability and navigation across multiple areas: Typography, visualization, and navigation. While the main navigation (on the left) is greyed out, in this phase of the project we were focused more on internal product-area navigation, exploring how our customers might navigate within a single product area. These screens provide a few examples of that exploration, alongside some other proposals that we were wanted to incorporate from our inbound marketing team and accessibility specialists.
